Broadcast Television News As A Media Source

Atualizado: 16 de nov. de 2023

I follow CSPAN (broadcast television news), CNN (cable news), New York Times (print) and BBC on social media to track reporting on the Coronavirus. I chose CSPAN due to the fact it is public access TV that’s covers what happens on the House floor and Senate floors. I enjoy CNN mainly because they’re a reliable news source and because of their news reporters (Anderson Cooper, Don Lemon, and Chris Cuomo). I enjoy reading the New York Times because I am a New Yorker and it is a liberal and reliable newspaper. It’s a bit pricey for the subscription but its worth I think if you go to school (you’re usually assigned to read articles). C-SPAN broadcasts the voting process of legislation that passes including legislation pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic. CNN covers how our (incompetent) President and government is helping/failing to respond to the COVID 19 crisis, including coverage of the White House task force. I especially enjoy how Dr.Sanjay Gupta answers incoming questions from the public and how Anderson Cooper includes firsthand stories of people overcoming barriers that COVID 19 brought to light. I love Don Lemon because he says everything that is in my mind regarding the government, public health, COVID 19 and whether the constant revision of facts and projections are valid or not.

I believe that my news sources are all reliable and they are catering to the modern day American, although people may label them as ‘liberal media outlets’ catering to the left-wing democrats. It is difficult to identify any miss information or dis-information from these media outlets because usually they’re the ones that’s doing the fact checking. I believe that all of these media outlets are heavily associated with expediting the process of communicating public health information between health stakeholders and the general public (I did not say “health stakeholders to the general public because I believe that this relationship is free-flowing and it can definitely be vice versa, meaning that the general public can sensationalize/popularize information and make information available to the point where it can be brought to the attention of important public health stakeholders.)

But if I had to choose, I would choose BBC because it is a global media outlet and it’s the most health literate (since it’s from Britain and their healthcare system is one of the best healthcare systems in the world), also the news outlets in Britain are only allowed to use primary sources we’re making reports making it more reliable.
